#1 miriona was a social media campaign created to engage more than a million Māori language supporters with content that people like, engage with and share. It did extremely well with well over a million people engaging in its content.

Blackout Media Ltd was tasked with creating the content for #1miriona that supported the new pepeha App. They needed content  that was quirky, fun and unintimidating, meaning no matter what your background is, you will enjoy the content and give it a go yourself.
Which is where 'The Pepeha Challenge' comes in. We produced 8 videos for the Social Media campaign with a mix of celebrities and everyday people learning and reciting their pepeha on screen.

One of the most popular videos was with Penny Furjes (video below) which garnered over 200k views during Māori Language Week. She is a Scottish New Zealander who is just taking the step to learning te reo māori and Scarlett-Manaia whose video saw 220k views overnight.

Other videos included Jimi Jackson, Brook Rusco, Chaeli Manuel, Te Waiata Mason, Sonny Ngatai and the Soldiers Road sisters.
